<i>L'art de s'envoler</i><b> </b>is<i> </i>a daily drawing exercise with instruction pamphlets and a work-out video (in progress). Asking to describe ''how it feels to fly'', I guide participants to remember experiences in dreams, on swings, when swimming or snow boarding. These speculative drawings channel ancestral animism and<br />
are informed by martial arts. I observe animals that inspire correct flying poses (ex: crane, otter, surfer), and meditated on positioning my body weight correctly, to help a graceful landing, or to keep myself from flying away. Investigating the power of thought and observation, I am open to new dimensions of reality. Living as form becomes a necessary ecology. </div>

Look for flying workshops in a park near you! Making my rounds in galleries, cafés, and airports, I promote the flying form with small folded booklets (origami style), directing you to my research blog and/or workshops. Hosting work-out video sessions of tai-chi inspired swarms (often seen outdoors), performing a choreographed series of given moves. I have dedicated six elements to the flying form : ground, air, fire, water, wood, and metal, always back to ground. Inspired by Sufism and other oral traditions, I hope this little exercise routine will be playful, and remind one to just enjoy the ride.</div>

Sharing with the public about ''the end of the world'', a common thought expressed was that we are entering an era of greater community. Insisting that conversations and intentions have power to form the future, I ask each participant to sit five minutes and record positive thoughts into a lock of their hair that I've </span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "helvetica";">carefully selected</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: "helvetica";">. This recent endeavour reflects on hidden Mi'kmaq bloodlines in my Acadian ancestry, unravelling what really lies <i>In the Shadow of Evangeline </i>(Galerie d'art Louise-et-Ruben-Cohen, 2011)<i>. </i>First completed for a group show and residency, the work has an on-going objective of building relationships between First Nation communities and all other cultural bodies across Canada. Up to 960 4''x6'' photographs mounted on<i> </i>1/8'' Russian Birch, are spread on the floor like tiles, forming an eight-pointed star. Appropriation and colonisation are evoked through form and meaning. The grid-like installation invades the gallery space and entrance, referencing land occupation and violation. The viewer is pointedly aware of how little space is left in the room, with only diffuse lights focused on the raked display. Compelled to follow narrow paths between the points, one must kneel for closer contemplation.</span></div>

Veiling of the eyes is meant here as a prayer, an attempt to heal some ancestral scars, a way to nurture these beautiful people and ultimately give them a proper burial. The masking of the head can be interpreted, however, as another defacing of the subject's identity, making it significantly sensitive for some viewers. The double meaning is part of my intention: we ARE fostering both hidden bloodlines and unspoken hardships. We ARE denying aboriginal rights, and depriving all humans of sacred knowledge for a sustainable future!</span></div>

visages des hommes et des femmes, figurant l’âme et rappelant la croyance que
celle-ci rejoint le vaisseau du corps par les yeux. Ici les yeux sont voilés
pour signifier une prière, pour tenter la guérison de cicatrices ancestrales.
Par ailleurs, on pourrait voir dans le voilement la volonté d’effacer une fois
de plus l'identité des sujets, et cela pourrait offusquer certains spectateurs.
Ce double sens fait partie de mon intention : nous couvons à la fois des
lignes sanguines cachées et des souffrances non-dites. Nous nions les droits
des autochtones en même temps que nous privons le reste de l’humanité d’un
savoir sacré garant d’un avenir durable!</span></div>

motif sur les couvertures et autres créations artisanales tant chez les Mi'kmaq
que chez les Acadiens. Serait-ce le reste d’une antique amitié longtemps
interdite? L’ensemble de ma pratique examine la mémoire collective et
l’empreinte ancestrale. L’archivage, l’appropriation et l’intervention sont les
moyens d’enquêter sur la matière et son potentiel de rétention mnémonique. La
pensée peut-elle se manifester par la prière, à travers l’eau,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>dans les objets? Lorsque la mémoire s’intègre
à la matière, le souvenir est-il faussé? La photographie a la capacité
d’immortaliser l’instant dans un tirage argentique. Cet argent peut-il aussi
retenir l’âme?</span></div>
